Designed by 5-year old Faith and sewn by the Mothers and Grandmothers in their Soweto village providing a sustainable income for their skills.
Poppi is the local word for dolly in the South African village that is the original home of these spirited creations. Shwe Shwe Poppis are based on drawings made by the children of Zola preschool in Soweto, South Africa which is operated by the African Children's Feeding Scheme. Each doll is handmade from recycled Shwe Shwe cloth and other bits of fabric to create a one of a kind item. The Poppi is named after the child who designed it and comes in its own little Shwe Shwe cloth bag with information about its creator. Funds generated from this project are placed in a Trust which benefits the children in helping to further their education.
Each Poppi is hand made by the children's mothers and grandmothers. Each doll is unique and therefore the colors and fabrics will vary from the one shown in the picture.
